A world without Alzheimer’s is not something easily imaginable. Watching your loved one slowly slip away and forget cherished memories is such a harsh reality. Online you will find many websites and organizations that will tell you about how to cope with your loved one’s illness. These are defiantly great resources but what about actually doing something about it. The Alzheimer’s Association is one organization that is looking to end this illness for good.
Every year the Alzheimer’s Association holds the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s in more than 600 communities nationwide. The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Every dollar you raise benefits those affected by Alzheimer's disease in your community.
Some quicks facts on Alzheimer’s:
  • ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IS AN EPIDEMIC
  • It’s the only cause of death in the top 10 in America that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed.
  • One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
  • There are more than 15.9 million caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the United States.
  • Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease are women
Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects us on a local level. This year the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's of Prince George's County was held on Saturday, September 24[G1] th at Prince George’s Stadium. Hundreds of people gathered to participate in the walk. The event raised $86,645.12 which was just 2% short of their goal of $88,000.00. Whether you walk for your parents or your neighbor you are doing an amazing service to raise funds and awareness for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Next year let’s raise even more funds! It takes a little muscle and it takes a little grit,
A little true ambition with a little bit of wit.
It's not the "biggest" things that count and make the "biggest" show.
It's the little things that people do that makes this old world go!
